Austin Butler and Ashley Tisdale find old links.
Although Ashley Tisdale and Austin Butler have been friends for a long time, they recently learned that they are in fact related (albeit very distantly).
On a recent episode of Ancestry's "2 Lies & a Leaf" series that she appeared on with her sister Jennifer Tisdale, Tisdale learned that the two were related.
When asked who of her co-stars she is really related to during the show, Tisdale had to decide between Zac Efron, Austin Butler, Dylan, and Cole Sprouse.
"Austin and I always say that we're like fraternal twins born very far apart ‘cause he’s much younger and we've always had that connection," Tisdale said.
The two were then discovered to be related—10th cousins once removed.
"We've always said we were brother and sister! That is insane, I'm literally going to cry," Tisdale replied when told the news.
For many years, Tisdale and the "Elvis" actor were close, and she referred to him as her "best friend" on the show.
Tisdale texted Butler at the conclusion of the program to inform him about their unidentified family connections. Butler's rejoinder, "no f—-ing way," Tisdale read aloud in shock.
Butler and Tisdale have previously collaborated on two projects. They both appeared together for the first time in the 2009 film "Aliens in the Attic," and again in the "High School Musical" spinoff "Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure."
