Hollywood director Woody Allen announces an end to his career as a movie director at the age of 86

Hollywood filmmaker Woody Allen announces his retirement from filmmaking after the completion of his 50th film and plans to only focus on writing.

As per the reports of Variety, the acclaimed director told the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia that he wanted to dedicate his time to writing which is why he has decided to retire from making movies.

His 50th movie Wasps 22 will be filmed in Paris and is expected to be shot completely in French within a few weeks.

“My idea, in principle, is not to make more movies and focus on writing," Allen shared with the outlet while revealing that his next project after Wasp 22 will be a novel.

Allen had already mentioned his plans for stepping down from filmmaking during an Instagram Live interview with Alec Baldwin in June, sharing that he plans to direct 'at least one more movie,' and confessing that 'the thrill is gone' for him.

The 86-year-old-director has had record-breaking achievements throughout his career with 16 Oscar nominations for Best Screenplay, and four Oscars win, including Best Director for Annie Hall in 1977.
