Matt Damon has reflected on the intense final stages of filming Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, revealing that the Oscar-winning director pushed the cast until the very last day of production.
The actor, who stars as Odysseus in Nolan's adaptation of Homer's ancient Greek epic, described the closing days of filming as physically demanding, saying the production finished with one of its most grueling sequences.
Damon praised Nolan's unwavering commitment to authenticity, noting that the filmmaker maintained the same level of intensity from the first day of shooting through to the final scene.
The Odyssey was filmed across multiple international locations and is the first major feature to be shot entirely using IMAX 70mm film cameras.
According to Daily Mail, the ambitious production required extensive location shoots, large-scale practical effects and physically challenging sequences for its cast, with Damon previously revealing the rigorous training he underwent to portray the legendary Greek king.
Despite the demanding schedule, Damon said working with Nolan remained a rewarding experience, crediting the director's meticulous planning and clear creative vision for keeping the ambitious production on track.
Released in cinemas on July 17, The Odyssey features an ensemble cast including Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o and Charlize Theron.
The film follows Odysseus' perilous journey home after the Trojan War, bringing Homer's classic tale to the big screen with Nolan's signature blend of large-scale spectacle and practical filmmaking.
The epic has opened to strong audience interest worldwide, with early box office figures and advance IMAX bookings reflecting high anticipation for Nolan's latest cinematic venture.
