Brooke Shields has recalled a controversial moment from her teenage years when legendary broadcaster Barbara Walters asked her for her body measurements during a televised interview when she was just 15 years old.

Speaking on the Dinner’s On Me podcast hosted by Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Shields described the interaction as “insane,” reflecting on how uncomfortable she felt at the time.

The interview, conducted in 1981 shortly after Shields rose to fame, included Walters directly asking the teenage star about her physical measurements, a question Shields now views as invasive and inappropriate.

According to People, Shields admitted that, as a young performer, she answered the question without fully processing its implications.

Looking back, she said she wishes she had responded differently, noting that she would handle such a moment very differently today.

Moreover, the actress also reflected more broadly on the intense scrutiny she faced during her early career, particularly following high-profile modeling campaigns and film roles that placed her in the public eye as a child and teenager.

As per the outlet, she said many of the questions directed at her during that period contributed to a sense of discomfort that she only fully understood later in life.

Walters, who died in 2022, was one of the most influential television interviewers of her time, known for her high-profile sit-downs with world leaders, entertainers, and cultural figures.

However, some of her past interviews have since been re-examined through a modern lens, particularly regarding how young women in the spotlight were questioned.
