Jake Shane’s question to Kacey Musgraves about one of her lyrics during his podcast is bringing up criticism of people without journalism experience conducting interviews.
The internet personality asked the country star if there was a song from her discography that was her favourite, to which she replied with her 2018 song Slow Burn amid her appearance on his Therapuss podcast.
As a follow-up, the host enquired “My favorite line from that song, obviously, is ‘Sun’s going down, but in Beijing, they’re headed out to work.’ What do you mean by that? Me and Manny, who I work with, debate it every single day.”
Kacey replied by saying that it was not a deep-coded thing and is meant to be taken literally about differing time-zones, since she was in Tennessee and thinking about people around the world experiencing different things during that time.
The clip soon took over social media and netizens on X slammed Jake for not being able to interpret the simple lyric.
“We need to end influencer interviews in lieu of actual journalism because what do you mean Kacey Musgraves had to explain how time zones work to Jake Shane?” One internet user wrote.
Another remarked, “How does this man have a job [sic] he is interviewing these people without an ounce of media literacy,” as a third commented “Is it this f***ing stupid? That lyric is literally the most self explanatory lyrics ever. Jesus, the English literacy is in hell with him.”
