Pop icon Robyn has lifted the lid on the harsh realities of the music industry and hailed Billie Eilish as a refreshing force who refuses to play by outdated rules.

The 46-year-old star didn’t hold back as she recalled her early days, describing a “disgusting” culture where powerful men openly discussed her body, image and sexuality in ways she found deeply intimidating.

Speaking candidly, Robyn revealed she felt pressured to show more skin to appear “youthful”, admitting the environment left her feeling exposed and unsupported.

Instead of giving in, she chose to protect herself.

“I put on armour,” she explained, revealing she kept industry figures at arm’s length rather than compromise her values.

Looking back, she now sees that decision as a sign of strength, even if it meant missing out on exploring her identity as a young artist.

That’s why she’s full of admiration for Billie, who has famously challenged beauty standards and refused to let her image overshadow her music.

Robyn praised her as proof that young artists can still “shut that down” and maintain their integrity in a tough industry.

The Dancing On My Own hitmaker also shared her love for Charli XCX, insisting their bond goes beyond the typical “female artist” label and is built on genuine connection.

Despite celebrating today’s growing diversity in pop, Robyn admitted she still feels disconnected from the glossy, commercial side of the industry.

While she gave a nod to Rosalía as “amazing”, she made it clear she doesn’t see herself as part of the mainstream machine.
