Ryan Gosling opened up about how being a father gave him a different perspective in his new role in upcoming film, Project Hail Mary.

The film follows Ryland Grace (Gosling), a science teacher who wakes up alone on a spaceship with amnesia. He discovers that he is on the last-chance mission to save Earth from a solar-eating parasite.

While speaking to People magazine in New York, he shared how the decision his character Ryland has to make in the film becomes "easy" with kids.

The Notebook star said that having children made certain decisions feel much easier and more instinctive.

However, he noted that his character doesn’t have that perspective, which make the situation far more complex and turns it into a deeper existential struggle.

Further talking about Rayland, he added, “And he doesn't believe in himself very much anyway, and I think that's also what's so relatable about his journey.”

"He has to learn to believe in himself, and he's put into this situation that forces him to find what's in there that he didn't know was there, and I think we all have that in us. It's just, what are the circumstances that will bring it out?" Gosling explained.

The Blade Runner star shares his two daughters Amada Lee, 9, and Esmeralda Amada, 11, with long-time love Eva Mendes.

The couple, who have been together since 2011, first met while filming The Place Beyond the Pines.

Project Hail Mary was released on March 19.
