Riz Ahmed has reflected on an early audition that didn’t go as planned, sharing how the experience ultimately shaped his outlook on the industry.

The 43-year-old star opened up during latest media interaction, recalling his attempt at landing a role in Slumdog Millionaire.

In an interview on Variety’s Actors on Actors series with Elisabeth Moss, he explained that Danny Boyle had initially seen him as a fit for the brother role alongside Dev Patel’s character and asked him to bring greater intensity to the moment.

He said, "Danny Boyle, thought I might be right for the brother character to the role that Dev Patel played...He goes, 'Listen, he’s in an aggressive mood. You can do whatever you want because the cameraman is going to move around with you.' "

He went on to add, "The first time I did the scene, I was a bit polite, so he said, 'Go further!' I went a bit too far."

Moreover, the Sound of Metal actor admitted that, as a young actor, he pushed the scene too far, becoming overly physical during the audition.

Additionally, he noted that he quickly realised it hadn’t gone well and believes, in hindsight, it was the right call.

For the unversed, the 2008 release of Slumdog Millionaire was a big success, receiving multiple Academy Awards and widespread praise.
