Joe Alwyn opened up about his co-star, Jessie Buckley winning an Oscar for her role in Hamnet.

The Conversation with Friends actor, starred as Agnes (Buckley) older brother, Bartholomew Hathaway.

Speaking about her performance and how much she deserved the Oscar, in a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, he said, "I think she’s phenomenal in the film and so deserving of everything that’s come her way and all the praises and all the awards that she’s got."

He went on praise for being a "a lovely, lovely person, and seeing someone like that recognised is really special."

Buckley during her award acceptance speech went on to thank the "incredible women" nominated in the category, as well as her loved ones

The Lost Daughter actress beat out fellow nominees Rose Bryne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You), Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blue), Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value) and Emma Stone (Bugonia).

Hamnet, originally a novel, is written by Maggie O'Farrell and directed by Chloe Zhao.

It follows young Shakespeare (Paul Mescal) and Agnes grappling with the tragic loss of their 11-year-old son.

The production also stars Emily Watson, Jacobi Jupe and Olivia Lynes.
