Jessie Buckley was over the moon after becoming the first-ever Irish actress to win an Oscar.
The Bride! star officially made a clean sweep this award season by winning the best actress accolade at 2026 Academy awards for her role in Hamnet.
The Lost Daughter actress beat out fellow nominees Rose Bryne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You), Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blue), Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value) and Emma Stone (Bugonia).
Once receiving the award, in her acceptance speech she said, "This is really something."
She went on to thank the "incredible women" nominated in the category, as well as her loved ones.
The 36-year-old artists then looked up to the balcony and expressed her gratitude to her family sitting there watching the proud moment get unfold.
She said, "Mom, Dad, thank you for teaching us to dream and to never be defined by expectation but to care from your own passion."
Buckley than told her husband, Freddie Sorensen, "I love you man." She called him an "incredible dad", "best friend" and planned to have "20,000 more babies with you."
Expressing her love for her eight-month-old daughter, Buckley joked that she likely "has no idea what’s going on and is probably dreaming of milk, but her mother winning an Oscar is "kind of a big deal."
With Sunday also marking Mother’s Day in the U.K., Ireland, Buckley dedicated her award to "the beautiful chaos of a mother’s heart"
Hamnet, originally a novel, is written by Maggie O'Farrell and directed by Chloe Zhao. It follows young Shakespeare and Agnes grappling with the tragic loss of their 11-year-old son.
The production also star Joe Alwyn, Emily Watson, Jacobi Jupe and Olivia Lynes.
