TikTok sensation turned rising pop star Alex Warren has revealed the chaos behind his “horrifying” Grammy Awards performance last month.
The 25-year-old, known for hits like The Ordinary, admitted that he still has no idea what went wrong.
He was set to perform in a live medley alongside fellow Best New Artist nominees Leon Thomas, Lola Young, KATSEYE, Addison Rae, sombr, The Marías and winner Olivia Dean at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena.
But as soon as Alex stepped on stage, disaster struck.
Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, he recalled: “Everything cut out from my in-ear monitors.
I couldn’t hear a thing — not myself, not the music. It was horrifying. We had rehearsed it all week… it was perfect.”
He described the frantic moments before going live: “They’re like, ‘30 seconds.’ I said, ‘I can’t hear anything.’
The guy goes, ‘It’s live TV. Twenty-five seconds.’ I go, ‘Guys, something’s wrong.’”
With no time to fix the problem, he had no choice but to roll with it, and deliver the performance blind.
In true Alex fashion, he looked up at the sky mid-stage and told himself: “This is meant to happen. Let’s do it.”
The singer later shared a distorted clip on Instagram, captioning it: ‘When you’re performing at the Grammys and all you hear is this in your ears. This would only happen to me…’
Despite the mishap, he is keeping his head up and his music knowledge growing.
There are also reports that the chart-topping singer is set to headline next season’s Super Bowl halftime show.
