Cillian Murphy opened about how he handles playing traumatized characters.

Murphy has recently made his comeback to the screens as Tommy Shelby in the new Peaky Blinders film, The Immortal Man.

While promoting the project, during a Q&A session, one of the audience members asked him how he manages to tackle difficult roles.

The Oppenheimer star replied, "I don't really know. I mean you kind of have to like, you're a doctor? See that's a real job."

Explaining why he doesn’t see his work as a real job, the Oscar winner said that is "primarily to put on costumes and do some voices."

He added that he is fully aware of the emotional impact of playing traumatising or intense characters.

The Irish actor went on to clarify that acting these roles is not a form of personal therapy for him since he is not acting to process his own emotions.

Murphy continued, "But um, it's a great release to play these characters and it's important, like i think the energy on set needs to be light."

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is set in 1940s Birmingham, "amidst the chaos of WWII, Tommy Shelby is driven back from self-imposed exile to face his most destructive reckoning yet."

In addition to Murphy, Sophie Rundle, Ned Dennehy, Packy Lee, Ian Peck, and Stephen Graham are reprising their roles, with Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, Jay Lycurgo, and Keoghan as new addition.
