Julianne Hough has rediscovered her love for acting and fans couldn’t be more thrilled.
The 37-year-old performer has stepped back onto the big screen in The Bride!, the much-anticipated film directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal.
The movie also features a powerhouse cast including Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale.
Speaking at the film’s U.S. premiere in New York on Tuesday night, Hough shared her excitement about returning to movies after spending years away from the big screen.
Although many fans associate her with musical roles, the star revealed that this project is something completely different.
“This movie isn’t a musical,” she explained.
“But there’s still movement and expression in it. At times it becomes explosive, and everyone involved is outrageously talented.”
For Footloose star, the experience of working alongside such a high-profile cast felt both humbling and inspiring.
“To be part of something like this, especially as my first film in many, many years, is such an honour,” she said.
For those unfamiliar, Hough first found success in films such as Safe Haven, Burlesque and Rock of Ages.
More recently, audiences have seen her lighting up television screens as co-host of Dancing with the Stars alongside Alfonso Ribeiro since 2023.
But it was the film’s powerful message that ultimately convinced Hough to return to acting.
She explained that the story highlights women’s voices in a meaningful way, something she felt was both timely and important.
Hough also had high praise for Gyllenhaal, calling the filmmaker generous and deeply supportive on set.
