Eric Dane’s moving memoir set for release months after tragic death

Eric Dane left behind one final gift for his family and fans before his heartbreaking death and that is a deeply personal memoir that will now be published later this year.

The beloved actor, best known for his roles in Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria, died on February 19, aged 53. 

But shortly before his passing, Dane finished writing a moving manuscript that captures the defining moments of his life. 

Titled My Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments, the book is set to be released on November 3 by Penguin Random House through The Open Field, an imprint founded by Maria Shriver.

The Hollywood star revealed just 10 months before his death that he had been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), the devastating neurological condition also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. 

Despite the illness gradually taking its toll, he continued working on the book until shortly before he died.

Shriver said the actor was determined to leave something meaningful behind for those he loved most.

“He wanted his family to know how much he loved them and he wanted to leave them a story they could be proud of,” she said.

The memoir is described as a deeply personal reflection on Dane’s life, from the tough early days trying to make it in Hollywood to his battle with addiction, his journey to sobriety, and the profound clarity he found after being diagnosed with ALS.

Before his death, The Last Ship star explained why he felt compelled to write the book.

“I wake up every morning and I’m reminded this illness is real,” he said. 

“That’s why I’m writing — to capture the moments that shaped me, the beautiful days and the hard ones.”

Fans will also hear Dane’s voice one final time in a posthumous interview filmed for the Netflix series Famous Last Words, where he delivered an emotional message to his daughters.
