Fans around the world are mourning the loss of Eric Dane, who passed away at the age of 53 on February 19.
The Grey’s Anatomy star died from respiratory failure, with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) cited as an underlying cause, according to his death certificate seen by People.
Dane, best known for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan, publicly revealed his ALS diagnosis in April 2025, nearly a year before his death.
At the time, he told People: "I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter."
Despite the devastating news, he continued to work, even preparing to return to the set of Euphoria.
In his final days, The Last Ship actor was surrounded by the people who meant the most to him and that are his devoted wife and his two daughters, Billie and Georgia.
Notably, his family shared a heartfelt statement: "With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS.
He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, who were the centre of his world. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always."
Throughout his illness, Dane became a passionate advocate for ALS awareness and research, determined to help others facing the same fight.
During a virtual panel, he said, "It's imperative that I share my journey with as many people as I can because I don't feel like my life is about me anymore."
Fans and colleagues alike have taken to social media to pay tribute to the beloved actor, remembering his warmth, humour, and dedication both on-screen and off.
