Cillian Murphy put an end to speculations and rising expectations that he will be the next Voldemort in Harry Potter TV series.

The streaming network, HBO, has not officially announced who will be playing the iconic villain role. Regardless people has begun rooting for Murphy to play the role.

In an interview with The Times, the Oppenheimer star gave a final verdict about the rumours.

When about his role, he said, "I'm categorically not."

Scoffing, he added, "can you make that a headline?"

The Oscar winner has been centre of rumours since Ralph Finneas endorsed Murphy as a "good" choice and appeared to have hinted at him being cast, early this year.

Finneas has also previously expressed his approval of the idea of Murphy playing Voldemort on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live.

He was asked to respond to online speculation that Murphy was being considered to portray the evil wizard.

While HBO has not announced who is playing Voldemort, they have named casting for other notable characters.

The golden trio—consisting of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley—will be played by Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout.
