Ethan Hawke is feeling reflective as he adds yet another Oscar nomination to his impressive career.
The 55-year-old actor has been nominated for Best Actor at next month’s Academy Awards for his turn as lyricist Lorenz Hart in Richard Linklater’s Blue Moon.
For Hawke, it’s more than just a nod, it’s a poignant reminder of how far he’s come since his first recognition 25 years ago for Training Day.
“I was the youngest in my category and now I’m the oldest,” he told People.
“It feels like six years ago that Training Day came out to me in my brain, so it’s hard not to think about a lifetime spent doing this.”
Despite four previous Oscar nominations, The Black Phone actor has yet to take home a statuette.
But he insists that’s never been his focus.
“I’m incredibly grateful to be here and still doing this dance because I enjoy it a lot,” he said, adding that the journey has made him think deeply about time and patience.
Before Sunrise star fondly recalls working alongside Denzel Washington on Training Day, admitting that riding shotgun with the acting legend was a career highlight.
Blue Moon has been described by Hawke as one of his most challenging roles yet, demanding everything he’s learned over decades.
“From the physical stuff, to the vocal work, to movement, to the text, to the ideas we’re trying to communicate — it was not a light lift,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.
