Smiling Friends' creators, Michael Cusack and Zach Hadel, shocked everyone with their new update on social media account.
The two stars opened up on the Adult Swim’s X account as they share a video, announcing a sudden cancellation of the series.
Zach and Michael confirmed that the series will discontinue after its third season, insisting in the clip that “this is not a bit, this is not a joke.”
He shared: “Michael and I are here to announce that Smiling Friends will be ending after Season 3 is done.”
The creator revealed the reason behind their decision, admitting that both of them shared a similar feeling of being “pretty burnt out after putting years and years into this.”
However, they also felt “pretty accomplished” while deciding “that could just be it after the recent instalment.
Zach and Michael are ending things at times when fans might demand more, which they believe is the right thing to do instead of frustrating their audience.
Michael revealed that the creators determined the instalment’s end and were backed by Adult Swim. The TV network accepted their plan and the fate of the cartoon.
They were told to “have a break” and have the opportunity to either completely quit or “come back in the future and make more episodes.”
