John Davidson has been campaigning about the Tourette syndrome after being diagnosed with the condition at a young age.

As the 54-year-old’s movie I Swear was nominated at the award ceremony, John was heard shouting a racial slur while Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo presented.

The activist has finally broken his silence as he addressed the incident after BBC and host Alan Cumming issued an apology.

John applauded the announcement that came in “advance of the recording, warning everyone” about his “involuntary tics.”

He confirmed that the slur and other repetitive words are “not a reflection of my personal beliefs,” admitting feeling “heartened by the round applause.”

According to the campaigner, he gushed about being mortified if anyone considers his tics “intentional or to carry any meaning.”

Towards the end of the long note, John revealed he left the auditorium earlier than others as he was “aware of the distress my tics were causing.”

Although the activist addressed the controversy, he seemingly added fuel to fire as one of the X users pointed out: “This is not an apology.”

Another netizen criticised his remarks, penning down on the platform: “So many I’s” in the statement.
