Wunmi Mosaku has revealed she hasn’t been able to properly celebrate her Oscar nomination

The 39-year-old actress, up for Best Supporting Actress for her role in vampire thriller Sinners, told The Sunday Times she’s been weighed down by recent tragedies.

Including the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti at the hands of ICE agents, and the kidnapping of a five-year-old boy. 

“It’s difficult to hold both the nomination and the news because one feels beautiful and one is so dark and heavy,” she said. 

“How can I possibly go out and buy some drinks and enjoy the moment?”

Mosaku, pregnant with her second child, also opened up about her future plans.

Though born in Nigeria and raised in Manchester, she has no plans to return to England, citing LA’s sunshine as a hard habit to break. 

“I’d love to live closer to nature… Tanzania? I’m not going to lie, it’s hard to envision coming back [to Manchester] when you’ve been spoilt by the weather in LA,” she admitted.

We Own This City actress also addressed the spotlight on her pregnancy, sharing how difficult it is to balance her culture with public life. 

Writing for Vogue, she explained her choice to embrace her bump on the Golden Globes red carpet. 

“Everything in me resists sharing it publicly… but I’ve decided to stop trying to camouflage my bump, so me and baby can truly enjoy and embrace the moment fully together.”
