Super Bowl LX teases darker DC future in new ‘Supergirl’ gritty trailer

Super Bowl, is the annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL), the biggest and one of the most viewed TV broadcast worldwide.

The event is more than just a football game, including huge parties and gatherings, elaborate halftime shows, extremely expensive commercials and Studios paying huge amounts to air trailers for the upcoming film in order to get extremely high viewership.

During the 2026 Super Bowl event, among number of trailers released, Warner Bros. dropped the Supergirl trailer too.

Directed by Craig Gillespie, the film promises a stark departure from the traditional superhero origin story.

The footage opens with a sombre and sense of quite domesticity, building tension as an "unexpected and ruthless adversary" strikes too close to home of Kara.

In the trailer she is seen grappling with her powers, flying across space and reluctantly teaming up with an unlikely companion on a path of vengeance and justice.

The clip also featured Krypto the Superdog and other cast members including Matthais Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and a brief appearance of Jason Momoa.

Produced by DC Studio co-CEOs Peter Safran and James Gunn and from the screenplay by Ana Nogueira, Supergirl is slated for release on June 26.
