Michelle Obama, the first lady of the United States, released a documentary Becoming that premiered in 2020 on Netflix.
The 62-year-old’s project saw an unexpected surge, ranking in Daily Top in the United States on the streaming platform.
However, this sudden spotlight shone on the series after President Donald Trump’s wife Melania Trump debuted MELANIA in theatres.
The projects give a rare look at the lives of the First Ladies as they dwell in The White House during their husbands’ respective terms.
Michelle published a book with the same name on November 13, 2018, which gives a rare insight in to her life and the way she found her voice.
Last week, the 55-year-old made $7 million across the United States and Canada, surpassing the projected sale of over $3 million.
Despite having a successful theatrical release, the project garnered five percent on Tomatometer while Michelle’s Becoming received 93 percent on the platform.
This came after Donald Trump insisted everyone to get the tickets as they are selling out fast. However, the movie suffered a setback internationally.
The former model’s documentary was withdrawn from the theatres of South Africa.
Thobashan Govindarajulu, Filmfinity’s head of sales and marketing, shared that “recent developments” have pushed them to cancel the theatrical release across the place.
