Dove Cameron’s 'dark year' before saying yes to Damiano David

Dove Cameron has opened up about the deeply personal journey that led her to finding love with her now-fiancé Damiano David.

The 30-year-old singer has revealed that she was “celibate” and struggling with depression before her romance with the Måneskin frontman blossomed.

Speaking candidly on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Dove admitted she was in what she described as a “dark night of the soul” when she first crossed paths with Damiano at the MTV VMAs in 2022.

At the time, their initial meeting didn’t spark fireworks, infact she thought that the 27-year-old singer couldn’t stand her.

“I was like, ‘This guy f****** hates me,’” she recalled, admitting she quickly brushed the interaction off and went on with her night.

Later, she discovered he was simply going through a rough period himself.

Fast forward to the 2023 VMAs, and everything changed.

Both stars were single, in a healthier headspace, and finally on the same wavelength.

Descendants actress shared that before this turning point, she had completely shut herself off from dating.

Then, almost serendipitously, she texted her friends saying she felt ready to date.

Just one week later, Damiano re-entered her life and now engaged, Dove calls their love story “innocent and simple.”
