Jacob Elordi has revealed that his mum once begged him to steer clear of working with Guillermo del Toro.

The 28-year-old actor, who plays the iconic Frankenstein’s monster, told fans at a BFI IMAX screening that as a 10-year-old horror fan, he’d sneak into the “horror aisle” at Blockbuster.

It was there he first laid eyes on the DVD cover for Pan’s Labyrinth.

“I saw the tree and the little girl… and then I turned the DVD around and saw the Pale Man. I remember thinking, what is that?” Jacob laughed.

His mother, Melissa, agreed to rent the film but only on one condition.

“You must never work with this man,” she reportedly told him.

Fast forward to today, and Saltburn actor couldn’t resist.

“And lo and behold,” he said with a grin.

Del Toro, 60, quipped: “It’s good to disobey one’s mother,” praising Jacob’s dedication on set.

The Wuthering Heights actor spent up to 10 hours a day under 42 pieces of makeup and prosthetics, fully embracing the creature.

“He did it all with grace and patience and love,” the director added, calling the performance “heartbreaking and beautiful”.

Co-star Oscar Isaac admitted he was equally stunned.

“He was so effortless. Never complained. Vulnerable and open. I was so impressed,” he said.
