Pop superstar Charli XCX has opened up about the whirlwind success of her 2024 album Brat.

The 33-year-old singer admitted that it introduced her to a whole new audience and some of whom “didn’t really get” her.

She saw the album soar to number one in the UK, New Zealand, Ireland and Australia, while hitting number three in the US, and even sparking the summer-long Brat craze.

Her rise also inspired The Moment, a new mockumentary in which Charli plays a fictionalised version of herself.

Speaking to Billboard, she reflected: “I’d been this relatively niche artist, and then suddenly opened up to a huge new audience.

Some really connected with me, some only with aspects of me, and some liked me but didn’t really get me.”

She admitted the scrutiny was intense, saying: “It made me so acutely aware of how hard that transition can be.”

Filmed over just 29 days, the project had a party-like vibe, with director Aidan Zamiri cranking up The Prodigy while setting up shots.

“Every single weekend, we would just go out and party,” Charli laughed.

But the pop sensation is ready to move on.

She’s set to release a companion album to Wuthering Heights and is keen to explore new creative paths.

“Right now, I’m really wanting ‘Brat’ to stop,” she told fans at Sundance.
