Hollywood veteran Delroy Lindo has finally bagged his first-ever Oscar nomination and fans couldn’t be happier.

The 73-year-old London-born actor, who has dazzled on screens for decades, has often been mentioned in awards chatter but repeatedly snubbed until now.

Lindo has long been considered one of the finest actors of his generation.

His turns in Spike Lee’s Malcolm X (1992) and Da 5 Bloods (2020) earned critical acclaim, yet awards recognition eluded him.

“I was profoundly disappointed,” he admitted to Entertainment Weekly, recalling the 2021 snub.

But the Crooklyn actor refused to sulk. “What am I going to do? Take my marbles and go home? No, I’m not going to do that,” he said.

Now, he has been recognised for his role as Delta Slim in Ryan Coogler’s genre-bending vampire thriller Sinners, playing a Mississippi musician caught in a bloodthirsty plot.

The film has been a critical and commercial smash, earning $368 million worldwide and racking up a record-breaking 16 Oscar nominations more than Titanic, La La Land, and All About Eve.

Coogler praised Lindo’s performance as “incredible,” a sentiment echoed by critics and audiences alike.

Blade star, known for his dedication and versatility, has finally received the recognition many feel has been long overdue.

For those unfamiliar, the 98th Academy Awards, hosted by returning comedian Conan O’Brien, air on Sunday, March 15 on ABC.
