Phil Collins, the legendary artist, has opened up about his health battles and hinted that there may still be new music to come.

The 74-year-old former Genesis frontman has endured what he described as a “perfect storm” of health problems in recent years.

These  included kidney issues, COVID complications and a string of knee surgeries that left him hospitalised for months.

Speaking candidly to Zoe Ball on BBC Two, Collins revealed he now relies on a 24-hour live-in nurse to help manage his medication and daily care.

“Everything that could go wrong with me did go wrong,” he admitted.

“It all seemed to converge at the same time.”

The In the Air Tonight singer also took responsibility for his kidney problems, confessing that drinking “too much” alcohol earlier in life likely played a role.

While insisting he was never a heavy night-time drinker, Collins said years of daytime drinking eventually caught up with him.

Notably, he has now been sober for more than two years.

After undergoing five knee operations, Another Day in Paradise singer can finally walk again, but with the help of crutches.

The rockstar says he is feeling better than he has in years.

“It’s been difficult, frustrating,” he said. “But it’s all right now.”

Although a return to touring seems unlikely following Genesis’ emotional farewell shows in 2022, Collins hasn’t ruled out a musical comeback.

He revealed he has unfinished songs and ideas tucked away and hopes to “have a fiddle” in the studio to see what’s possible.
