Justin and Hailey Bieber have escalated their response to social media speculation about their marriage by hiring lawyers and issuing a legal warning to TikTok creator Julie Theis, according to reports.
Theis, a psychologist and content creator, posted several videos on TikTok and Instagram analyzing celebrity relationships and identifying the Biebers’ marriage as an example of what she described as an “abusive” dynamic allegedly linked to Justin’s past drug use and Hailey’s supposed codependency.
In a letter obtained by TMZ, the couple’s attorney Evan Spiegel accused Theis of spreading “outrageous false, fabricated and defamatory” statements about their private life.
The cease-and-desist demands that she immediately remove the contentious posts and refrain from further claims implying that Justin and Hailey’s marriage is abusive or problematic.
According to Page Six, Theis, for her part, defended her content as “opinion-based commentary about relationship dynamics and power,” arguing that the Biebers’ legal move amounts to an attempt to “silence and intimidate” her.
Moreover, she told TMZ that “disagreement is not defamation” and criticized the action as “elitist.”
The controversy highlights broader tensions over how far social media creators can go when interpreting or critiquing the personal lives of high-profile figures.
Some online commenters have praised Theis for standing her ground, while others contend that her assertions, framed by some as speculation presented as fact, crossed a line that could harm reputations.
Representatives for the Biebers had not responded to requests for additional comment at the time of publication.
