Abel Tesfaye is reported to retire his alter ego The Weeknd, which began in 2011 after he released three mixtapes.

Despite ending an era, the 35-year-old singer is seemingly not going to retire from making songs or wrapping up his career.

The Blinding Lights hitmaker confused his fans as he created another Instagram account with the username @gene.hackerman after wiping off his official page.

He began sharing cryptic posts with zero context while many believe it is a spam account which is meant to give sneak peek into his vacation.

However, others are of the opinion that the musician never posts pointless updates as a recent carousel features Abel relaxing in the pool while having coffee.

It appears that the singer is transitioning to another era as one user pointed out: “Whhaatt Abel showing skin in 2026!!!!” While a fan shared: “oh so you’re finally showing yourself.”

Meanwhile, the Grammy winner is yet to confirm this new move as a mere spam account or something more.

The Popular crooner is about to wrap his tour After Hours Til Dawn on September 6, 2026 and bid farewell to The Weeknd.

A rumour began to circulate about him selling the rights of his entire catalogue after he finalised a deal of $1 billion.

Did The Weeknd sell his music catalouge?

However, it was revealed that The Weeknd will keep the publishing and master rights for which a unique business model was designed.

Moreover, the agreement will only apply to his works till 2025 and no future projects will be affected.
