Jennifer Lawrence shared a humorous anecdote about her early career on Wednesday, revealing that there was one role she desperately wanted that went instead to longtime friend Emma Stone.

Speaking at a Q&A with entertainment journalist Josh Horowitz at the 92NY Kaufmann Concert Hall in New York City, Lawrence said she had auditioned for the 2010 teen comedy Easy A, ultimately won by Stone, a part she now jokingly admits she “really should have gotten.”

Lawrence described herself as “nuts for Easy A,” saying the film “could have turned out great” with her in the lead role.

The movie became a breakout moment for Stone, cementing her status as one of Hollywood’s most sought-after talents.

At the event, Lawrence also touched on her recent experience with awards season.

According to People, she laughed about receiving a sad face emoji in a group chat after Stone earned a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for her performance in Bugonia, while Lawrence was not nominated for her role in Die My Love

Playfully teasing her friend, she quipped that every time Stone tries to speak, she asks, “Why are you not so sorry?”, before adding, “She’s been beating me for decades, and it’s an honor.”

Despite the friendly competitive banter, Lawrence emphasized the mutual respect and deep friendship between the two stars, a relationship built over years of shared experiences in Hollywood.
