Nickelodeon star Jennette McCurdy exposes ‘creepy’ industry dynamic

Jennette McCurdy has bravely opened up about a deeply unsettling chapter from her Nickelodeon days, leaving fans shocked.

The 33-year-old former child star revealed new details about an inappropriate relationship with an older man while filming Sam & Cat.

She spoke candidly on Call Her Daddy with host Alex Cooper, describing the dynamic as “creepy” and emotionally draining. 

McCurdy said the man, who worked on the show and had a live-in girlfriend at the time, slowly blurred boundaries by bonding with her over films and music she didn’t even enjoy but felt pressured to pretend she did.

“He would hang out with me in the writers’ room after work,” she recalled, admitting she now feels “like an idiot” for going along with it.

What began as attention soon turned into something far more damaging. 

iCarly actress revealed the physical side of the relationship started in late summer, but within months she felt trapped by his availability and control.

“It was these half-hour pockets here and there, and I just had to be at his every beck and call,” she said. “It was exhausting.”

When she finally threatened to walk away, the man allegedly claimed he would leave his girlfriend, a promise that only deepened the emotional confusion.

“It was all just so twisted,” she added.

Notably, the revelations build on themes from her bestselling 2022 memoir I’m Glad My Mom Died, which detailed both industry exploitation and her complex relationship with her late mother. 

The book is now being adapted into an Apple TV+ series, executive produced by Jennifer Aniston, that is turning McCurdy’s painful truth into a powerful act of reclaiming her story.
