Zootopia 2 has broken a major record for Disney which was previously held by the cultural phenomenon of a series, Frozen’s sequel.
The animated comedy movie is being compared to the iconic musical, and the way it surpassed its predeceasing animated masterpiece.
In a recent report, Variety disclosed that the animal film’s sequel is now Walt Disney Animation’s highest-grossing movie in history with $1.46 billion at the global box office, a record previously held by Frozen’s sequel.
Frozen 2 made $1.45 billion in 2019 and earned over a billion overseas, after making $333 million domestically.
The highest-grossing movie also reached the billion title in before twenty days of its release, making it the fastest PG-rated movie in history to hold that title as well.
A close contender, and the second Disney movie that is closely following behind is Avatar: Fire and Ash, which is has nearly earned $100 million after hitting the cinemas on Dec. 19 so it could very likely beat Zootopia 2’s record.
Notably, the 2013 smash hit Frozen will be marked with a trilogy in 2027, which could make it reclaim its throne as Disney’s highest grossing franchise.
Zootopia 2 has some scenes which could be scary for children under five years of age.
