Chappell Roan is under fire by internet users for fondly remembering the now-deceased French actress Brigitte Bardot.
The Pink Pony Club singer took to her Instagram stories to write a short note for the Paris singer, adding that she inspired one of her most well-known songs.
“She was my inspiration for red wine supernova. Rest in peace Ms. Bardot,” the 27-year-old wrote alongside a report of the 91-year-old’s passing.
The Good Luck, Babe! singer has found herself at the heart of controversy a number of times in her career and is known for being quite outspoken.
Coupled with all this, Bardot’s eyebrow raising opinions are also coming to light in the wake of her passing.
Since Roan posted the note, internet users have taken to social media to call the singer out on her tribute, as others told her to be more cautious about the people she supports.
One netizen wrote, “im sorry chappell roan claiming to having been inspired by notorious racist bardot and posting a cute little story wishing her to rest in peace with a heart was not on my 2025 bingo card that is insane....”
“Chappell Roan really is a whole ass weirdo. Ain't no way in hell her chronically online, pretentious, performative "activist" a** don't know that Bardot was a raging racist, Islamophobia, anti immigrant, misogynist, pedophile defending/befriending piece of merde…” another added.
A third simply wrote, “chappell roan please open brigitte bardot’s wikipedia page,” which notes all of Bardot’s political views and dislike of certain communities.
