Stranger Things, known for being an absolute hit on Netflix, is fast approaching its end as it is expected to wrap up on the last day of this year.
The show is notable for its nostalgic vibes as a children team backed by adults try to combat monsters from the Upside Down.
The second volume premiered on December 25, taking over Christmas as Vecna attempts to collide worlds, however, several scenes held powerful resemblance with iconic movies from the past.
Listed below are some of the scenes that creatively reminds of other universes created in the Hollywood and felt like a tribute:
1. Titanic
As Nancy Wheeler and Jonathan Byers found themselves stuck in the melting buildings, the troubled couple navigated the trauma bond in relationship.
The un-proposal scene went viral which featured the two climbed on a table, thinking they might freeze soon.
It was “slightly” referenced from Titanic’s end according to Duffer Brothers. In the scene, Jack lets his love interest Rose climb up the broken door in freezing water.
2. Jurassic Park
Lucas carried his flame Max and fled with Robbin and her partner to hide from the approaching demogorgons. The four tried holding their breath as they hid behind a table.
A similarity can be drawn between this cut from Stranger Things and Jurassic World movie where children hid in the kitchen to avoid being eaten by Dinosaurs.
3. House of Wax
The young adults’ team rushed to Hawkins lab in the Upside Down to find a shield generator in an attempt to break the wall of flesh and save Holly.
However, Nancy and Jonathan encountered “Exotic Matter,” accidentally shooting it. The action resulted in the melting of building walls. The scene carried great resemblance with a cut from House of Wax.
In the 2005 movie, the museum made from wax melts down after a fire broke out towards the end of the movie. Lead characters attempt to escape the devastation just as the real life couple in sci-fi series did.
3. Interstellar
Max and Holly, stuck in Camazotz, break through memories to find an escape. In one such instance, the duo finds a bookshelf as they make their way to the library and watch the young girl talk with Mr. WhatsIt.
This directly related to Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar where stranded astronaut Cooper enters tesseract and “manipulates gravity” of the bookshelf on his daughter’s room.
4. Up
At last, Erica and Murry team up to ask for Dustin’s teacher Mr. Scott Clarke to build a telemetry tracker. Being a science enthusiast, Clark comes up with an interesting model for the tracker.
He tied the machine with colourful balloons and let it elevate to a height, getting the appropriate range. The balloons were introduced in a way similar to a cut from the animated movie Up.
5. Caroline
The youngest Wheeler succeeds in finding the hidden location through her spyglass, realising the cover has a secret M to mark the spot.
This was seen parallel to Caroline’s stone that she uses to identify souls in the other world which presumably originates from European folklore.
