The two highly anticipated films Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday are set to be released on the same next year, which has caused a lot of buzz online.
Since the release dates for the movies are the same, internet users are looking back on 2023, when a similar release schedule for two eagerly awaited films Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer created Barbenheimer.
The release of the films became a cultural phenomenon that the masses actively engaged in, and it contributed to the success of both the starkly different films.
A similar phenomenon seems to be budding online with the upcoming science fiction films, the Dune trilogy and the fifth film in Marvel’s Avengers series.
The star-studded, packed casts and storylines have created a lot of buzz online already, and a new word combining the movies’ names is also making rounds on the internet.
“2023 we had Barbenheimer 2026 we have DUNESDAY,” one internet user wrote online with a fire emoji and a crying emoji.
“PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let's make Dunesday the next Barbenheimer,” another added, as a third wrote, “Bring on Dunesday/ Pugh Day!” referring to the fact that Florence Pugh stars in both films.
