Taylor Swift is describing one her most lighthearted tracks off of Midnights as a break up song, which evidently surprising her mom Andrea Swift.
The You’re Losing Me singer revealed that the pop rock tune which reflects on a past relationship that is difficult to get over because it was more meaningful than the rest, Hits Different, was in fact a heartbreak anthem.
In a new clip from the Disney+ docu-series, End of an Era, the singer plays the song on piano for her mother, who mistakes and confuses it for a love song about the 14-time Grammy winner and her beau Travis Kelce, likely because of the name of the track.
“It’s so different than when you first met,” Andrea adoringly stated in a clip, to which a visibly confused Taylor replied, “Who are we talking about now?” to which the matriarch answered the National Football League player.
“These are literally two breakup songs, Hits Different is a breakup song,” Taylor clarified, adding that she perceives it as a person going through a horrible breakup and they can’t move on but they do, likely referring to the song mashup for a night at the Eras Tour.
Notably, the Hoax singer’s song was likely about her break up with her long term boyfriend Joe Alwyn.
Taylor and Travis’ romance started a little over two years ago in 2023, during The Eras Tour.
