Robert Pattinson opened up about the unusual lengths he went to while preparing for a scene with Zendaya in their upcoming rom-com The Drama and it involves a surprisingly long phone call.
The Twilight star admitted that he was “going crazy” trying to figure out the meaning behind one particular scene so he called Zendaya the night before filming and ended up talking for two full hours.
“We had a scene together that was driving me crazy,” Pattinson told French publication Première. “I was desperately looking for its meaning, writing pages and pages of textual analysis, he continued.
I ended up calling Zendaya the night before shooting the scene. I shared my doubts with her, I spoke for two hours, and after a while, very calmly, she made me understand that the line just said what it meant to say, that there was no hidden meaning,” the star said
Pattinson added: “I tend to stumble over the meaning of things. To the point of overdoing it, trying to solve mysteries that aren’t really mysteries.”
Fans can now picture the two actors chatting on the phone for hours not romantically but according to them, strictly professionally as they navigated the scene together.
The pair co-star in The Drama a rom-com coming in 2026 about a couple whose relationship is rocked by shocking truths just before their wedding.
The film has already sparked buzz after a promo photo of Pattinson and Zendaya “getting engaged” went viral leaving fans speculating about their chemistry on and off-screen.
Meanwhile, Zendaya’s real-life relationship with Tom Holland seems stronger than ever. Holland told TMZ in December:
“No, absolutely not [we haven’t split]. Our relationship is something that we are quite protective of and we want to keep as sacred as possible. We don’t think that we owe it to anyone.”
With Pattinson and Zendaya’s on-screen closeness and off-screen professionalism making headlines, The Drama is shaping up to be one of 2026’s most talked-about films.
