Meghan Markle has reportedly issued an urgent three-word message to her father, Thomas Markle, as the 81-year-old continues to recover in a Philippines hospital following the amputation of his left leg.
Despite the pair's long-standing estrangement, Meghan’s team insists she has been trying to make contact, though the effort appears to have sparked more confusion than clarity.
A spokesperson for the Duchess confirmed on Friday that Meghan had “reached out” to her father, whom she has been estranged from since her 2018 wedding, when Thomas was caught staging paparazzi photos ahead of the ceremony.
According to reports, Meghan even attempted to identify which hospital her father was in so she could make contact.
But in an emotional interview with the Mail on Sunday, Thomas Markle claimed he had received no message at all, saying he has not changed his phone number.
The Mail also reported that Meghan had emailed an address, but Thomas “never uses email.”
Now, The Independent reports a very different version of events, with a source close to Meghan saying the tabloid’s claims would have been corrected instantly if they had checked.
According to the insider, the message to Thomas was simple: “check his email.”
The source told the outlet: “The Mail made no attempt to contact the Duchess’s team, prior to publication to verify the claims in their report. Had they asked – particularly in light of the quotes they relied upon from Mr Markle and hospital staff – we would simply have told them to ask Mr Markle to check his email.”
