Jessie J is opening up about the deepest griefs of her life including the loss of her close friend and longtime bodyguard, Dave, who died by suicide in 2018.
The 37-year-old singer released Don’t Tease Me With A Good Time last week which marks as her first album in seven years.
The Wild singer revealed that she sang one of the most touching songs of her latest album named, I’ll Never Know What, as a tribute to her late bodyguard and friend.
She explained that she wrote the song five years ago but had no plans of releasing it. Her album serves as a mirror image of her years of pain, healing, and resilience.
Jessie battled early breast cancer earlier this year and underwent a mastectomy after welcoming her son with partner Chanan Colman in 2023.
Jessie grew emotional as she remembered her pal and protector Dave. “He was my security for many, many years,” she shared.
“When I got famous, he was the one I’d call when it all felt too much. He was always there for me.” she said while talking on This Morning.
“My new team told me, ‘You have to. It’s going to help so many people.’ And seeing the reaction has been incredible. He was like my big brother.”
The album also touches on another heartbreak which is Jessie’s miscarriage which she opens up in her moving track Comes in Waves.
