SZA is reacting to the negative chatter around the Wicked: For Good press tour, after memes slamming Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande have blown up on the internet.
The Kill Bill singer left a remark under an Instagram account talking that took place at the Singapore premiere of the musical’s sequel.
At the event, a crazed fan had rushed to the Thank U, Next hit maker which caused alarm and concern for her safety in all those around her, including Cynthia, who was quicker to react and reach out to a visibly shaken Ariana to protect her.
The viral moment has since been made fun of on the internet, with people arguing that the Harriet actress is overprotective of the two-time Grammy winner, with some even claiming that the former overshadows the latter.
In the comments section of a video referencing this, SZA wrote, “Ir [sic] not bugging and no one is too woke! It’s CLASSIC Misogynoir! NOTHING ELSE !!! can’t believe it’s openly a thing in 2025…”
"[E]veryone’s gonna have cognitive dissonance 2 years later like ‘remember when everyone attacked cynthia for being black bald and nurturing? that was crazy’ it could jus stop now lol" she added with a shrug emoji.
Notably, SZA has stuck up for Cynthia on the internet before, when the latter was named among British GQ's Men of the Year, and a content creator made a video about it.
No, Ariana and Cynthia insisted on singing live on set for Wicked.
