Wicked: For Good screenwriter Dana Fox explains why they had to cut a beautiful moment shared between Fiyero and Glinda in the movie.
Speaking with Deadline in an interview published on November 21, Fox said they cut a passionate kissing scene between the pair.
“It was romantic and beautiful, but a little too passionate,” she said. “Seeing that made it too hard to watch him make the choice he makes to be with Elphaba and made it too hard to make it OK that Elphaba ran off with him.”
The writer added that the scene seemed so real that the two of them really felt something together.
“It was like a feeling that he really did love her, which he does care about Glinda a lot, don’t get me wrong,” Fox admitted. “But he likes her in a different way.”
However, the scene they cut was more romantic than expected, so Fox explained it like, “Oh, we can’t know that because then our brains will explode when he doesn’t choose her in the end. And then we’ll hate Elphaba, Glinda, and Fiyero.”
Therefore, they cut the kiss between them, and Fox believes it was for the good, “because it was too adorable that you simply couldn’t handle it.”
