Benedict Cumberbatch, who is also known for his role in Marvel’s Doctor Strange, opened up about his thoughts regarding AI takeover.
During a Reddit AMA, the 49-year-old was asked by fans on his post to share his thoughts on AI.
The Sherlock Holmes star started as he titled the situation “very depressing” and added that it scares him.
Although the English actor acknowledged the use of AI to make things easier, he also shared his concern, “I feel we are in danger of vanilla-fying and perfecting and asphalting over the thing that makes us human.”
He further emphasised that human errors are perfectly normal but nowadays people are obsessed with perfect things and hence, the usage of AI is increasing.
He also penned Nick Cave’s letter while praising him that read, “our limitations are what make us human and stories are how we understand our humanity.”
He stated, “The blank page, the challenge of slow thinking, failing, and thinking better, and the difficulties of the grind of our creative act are what make it so, so rewarding.”
Notably, Benedict is not the only person who is against AI, the Frankenstein’s famous director, Guillermo del Toro has also declared that he’d rather die than use AI in his artwork.
On the professional note, Benedict has starred in a movie, The Thing with Feathers based on bestselling novel by Max Porter, coming out on November 28, 2025.
