Glen Powell, who rose to fame with his role in Top Gun: Maverick alongside Tom Cruise, finally earned a lead role in new movie The Running Man.

The 2025 project is a refined remake of the original which had Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead of movie adaptation of Stephen King’s 1982 novel.

However, the screen presence of the 37-year-old actor has sparked a debate with many calling him a successor of Tom, who trained Glen for the role.

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s David Rooney, the book’s storyline perfectly aligns with the contemporary world. Meanwhile, the critic expressed doubts on “Glen Powell’s viability as a leading man.”

While David acknowledged “no shortage of action and adrenaline,” he felt it was “hollow.” He admitted being invested initially, but ended up feeling “worn down.”

On the other hand, The Telegraph’s Robbie Collin applauded the Anyone But You star’s stage presence and the sci-fi in general.

Robbie pointed out that he fulfilled the character’s criteria as it felt like “a kinetic, stylish, obviously physically and technically demanding new adaptation of Stephen King’s 1982 novel about a reality Tv show.”

The critic labelled it a “vintage Cruise project from his Minority Report and Collateral era.”

When is The Running Man coming out?

The new movie has a whooping budget of $110 million and mixed reactions are being expected by the viewers as it hit the theatres on November 12, 2025.
