Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence has opened up about feeling rejected after being labelled “annoying” in her past interviews.
In her new profile for The New Yorker, published Monday, October 27, to promote her upcoming film Die My Love, the actress reflected on her old interviews when the outlet’s interviewer asked her to address the topic.
Lawrence revealed that throughout her career, she’s given several interviews that she now finds “so hyper” and “so embarrassing.”
“Well, it is, or it was, my genuine personality, but it was also a defense mechanism,” she said, responding to the perception that she was faking her “cool girl” persona, as described by various outlets.
“It was a defense mechanism to just be like, ‘I’m not like that! I poop my pants every day!’” Lawrence joked.
The actress admitted she completely understands why people found her old interviews annoying.
When she watches them back, even she finds that version of herself irritating, and she laughs about how Ariana Grande’s SNL impression of her was absolutely spot-on.
“I felt — I didn’t feel, I was, I think, rejected not for my movies, not for my politics, but for me, for my personality,” Lawrence said.
