The Rock himself, Dwayne Johnson, is on a diet to lose some pounds for his next movie, amid The Smashing Machine promotions.
On Monday night, September 29, Johnson and Benny Safdie celebrated the red carpet debut of their new film, The Smashing Machine, in Los Angeles.
The duo has also planned to reunite for another project, an adaptation of Daniel Pinkwater’s novel Lizard Music.
Johnson, in particular, is trimming down for his next role after putting on 30 pounds for The Smashing Machine.
“I’ve been dieting,” he said. “Happy to not be carrying all the weight. I’m able to tuck in my shirt now… I don’t look pregnant, so it’s all good.”
He continued, “Think Clint Eastwood at 75. Sinewy muscles, he’s lean. But it feels good.”
Johnson takes on the role of Mark Kerr in The Smashing Machine, written and directed by Benny Safdie. The film follows Kerr, an early MMA champion who staged a remarkable career comeback after struggling with substance abuse. Emily Blunt co-stars as his longtime partner, Dawn Staples.
The Fast and Furious actor will also play a 75-year-old man who is best friends with a chicken of the same age in Lizard Music.
