Sabrina Carpenter got her first lead role in the Disney Channel reboot Girl Meets World as Maya Hart. This was her big break as a singer and actress since she sang the theme song of the show.
She portrayed a 15-year-old high school girl and Riley's (Rowan Blanchard) best friend. Her character was bold, sarcastic, and loyal.
In 2016, Sabrina landed a Disney Channel Original Movie role as the lead alongside Sofia Carson. Here, she also served as the executive producer. The film was a reboot of the 1987 original of the same name.
Sabrina’s most notable acting was in Netflix’s 2019 comedy, Tall Girl, though the musician played the supporting role of Harper Kreyman, younger sister of the main lead, Jodi Kreyman (Ava Michelle).
The film received positive reviews and went on to release a sequel titled Tall Girl 2, in which the Grammy winner reprised her role as Harper.
The 2020 Netflix dance comedy put the young artist in an awkward high schooler role, who later learns dance to win a competition against her rival.
The 2022 thriller film, Emergency, had Sabrina in a supportive role of a concerned elder sister named Maddy, trying to track down her sister using her phone’s location.
The 2020 teen romance biographical film was released on Disney+ with the Tears for Fears hitmaker as the lead, Sammy Brown, best friend to the male lead Zach Sobiech.
The movie was based on the true story of a boy named Zach, who was an aspiring musician and was diagnosed with rare bone cancer. He passed away in 2013 at the age of 18.
Lastly, Sabrina had a small role in the 2018 teen drama, The Hate U Give, starring Amanda Stenberg. The film was nominated for the Critics' Choice Awards and other notable accolades.
