SNL newcomer Emil Wakim is saying goodbye to Saturday Night Live after just one season, announcing the news on social media.
On Wednesday, Aug. 27, the comedian confirmed his departure in a statement shared on Instagram.
Wakim posted a photo carousel from his time on the sketch-comedy show and revealed the news in the caption.
“i won’t be returning to snl next year,” Wakim wrote. “it was a gut punch of a call to get but i’m so grateful for my time there.”
“every time i scanned into the building i would think how insane it is to get to work there,” he continued. “it was the most terrifying, thrilling, and rewarding experience of my life and i will miss it dearly and all the brilliant people that work there that made it feel like a home.”
Wakim joined the NBC sketch-comedy show for its milestone 50th season as one of three new featured cast members, alongside Ashley Padilla and Jane Wickline.
He debuted in the season premiere on September 28, hosted by Jean Smart, and made his final appearance in the May 17 finale, hosted by Scarlett Johansson.
Throughout the season, Wakim often appeared in SNL’s iconic “Weekend Update” segment with anchors Michael Che and Colin Jost, taking on different characters each time.
