Oscar-nominated actress Vanessa Kirby has learned about motherhood while starring as Sue Storm in Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps.
The actress has been on a global press tour alongside fellow heroes Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach while she is pregnant.
On the other hand, Kirby has also been working hard filming Avengers: Doomsday.
Speaking with Variety during a phone call on the film’s release day, Kirby said that she was lying in bed for the first time in a while because of her busy schedule.
“I’m lying flat today! I can’t believe I’ve actually managed to lie flat during the daytime. I haven’t known that for a long time,” she said excitedly. “I’m lying in bed talking to you!”
Kirby’s character in the movie is a pregnant superhero who gives birth in a space rocket and saves her newborn from Galactus using her full power potential.
“It certainly taught me about motherhood,” she said, “and my own motherhood journey. That can’t be a coincidence.”
Kirby is currently expecting her first child with boyfriend Paul Rabil.
“She always felt like a total mixture of so many things,” Kirby said about her character. “Obviously, deeply maternal and deeply loving and incredibly steady, but also fierce.”
The BAFTA-winning actress added, “In a way, it taught me so much about motherhood, because that’s what motherhood is. It’s not a passive thing. To give birth, you have to be completely, totally fierce.”
