David Beckham mourns footballer Diogo Jota after tragic car crash

David Beckham honours Diogo Jota, who passed away tragically at the age of 28 on Thursday.

In an update posted to his Instagram Story, the 50-year-old former football player expressed his shock at the news.

Two weeks after marrying his childhood sweetheart, Portuguese forward Diogo passed away when his Lamborghini crashed off the road in northern Spain.

He was in the supercar with his younger brother, Andre, a 26-year-old football player who also lost his life in the early hours of this morning's collision.

"Devastating to hear this such sad news... sending love to Diogo and Andre's families," David wrote on Instagram alongside a picture of Diogo.

At Cernadilla near Zamora in northwest Spain, near the Portuguese border, the tyre of Diogo's car is reported to have blown out while he was driving on the A-52.

Around 12:35 in the morning, the supercar rolled off the road, caught fire, and ignited the nearby vegetation. The brothers could not be saved, despite the emergency services being called. The identity of the driver is still unknown, according to police.

David Beckham has been hospitalized with a sling in arm. However, there are no official updates of the actual reason of the injury.
