CBS parent company, Paramount is ready to pay $16 million to Trump's future presidential library. Trump sued CBS over misleading coverage of presidential candidate and the then vice-president of United States Kamala Harris.
Media conglomerate aired Kamala's interview via its news program ‘60 Minutes’ on October 7, 2024, during election prime time.
The U.S. president accused the broadcasting network for deceptive editing of interview to influence the election outcome in favour of Democrats and hurt his businesses. Trump filed a lawsuit against CBS and sought $10bn which he raised to $20bn later.
Defendant issued statement which read: “The settlement does not include an apology or regret and maintains the initial stance that the lawsuit is completely without merit," the Guardian reported.
The agreement further disclosed that: “The amount will not be paid to Trump directly or indirectly by any means but to Trump's future presidential library. CBS will also release interview transcripts subject to national security concerns.”
‘60 Minutes’ lawsuit resolution comes as Paramount is ready to merge with Skydance media in $8.4bn deal which is now subject to US Federal Communication Commission approval.
Paramount Global is an American international media company which has produced blockbuster movies including The Godfather, Titanic and Star Trek. Media giant is also known as the parent company of MTV, Nickelodeon and CBS Network.
